Dr Cheryll Adams

Cheryll is a very experienced, passionate and committed public health professional and nurse leader who has worked for the NHS in the community for over 20 years, also in research, and strategically at a national policy level for many years.  Her work has been recognised with a number of awards.  Most recently she was one of the first 6 nurses to be inducted into the Nursing Times Hall of Fame for service to public health nursing.

She is fundamentally committed to improving the quality and efficiency of public health services for child and families as delivered by health visitors and school nurses and to improving the mental wellbeing of the population through early interventions. Her background in research ensures that all she does is informed by evidence, and her extensive networks across statutory and voluntary agencies allow her to access best practice and a range of options and opinions when undertaking developmental projects. She has published widely and worked extensively with the media in print, radio and TV.

In 2007 Cheryll was one of the first nurses in the UK to be awarded a professional doctorate in nursing, a doctorate which is undertaken within the work environment.

Cheryll is a well known campaigner and champion for issues related to women’s and children’s emotional health and health visiting.  She is highly motivated and an innovator, and her visionary approaches have led to significant advances for national and local services. On behalf of Unite/CPHVA she was a partner in the Department of Health, Action on Health Visiting initiative, and co-author of the publication, Getting it Right for Children and Families (DH, 2009)
